About The Position

This is an intermediate-level position requiring satisfactory performance of tasks assigned at the CAD Technician I level. The role requires some independent responsibility in resolving problems, handling communications, and understanding department and work-unit procedures. The incumbent performs non-routine drafting assignments of moderate complexity based on rough or general drawings, sketches, or layouts, including irregular shapes, multiple functions, and precise positional relationships between components. Work is performed independently after initial assignment, with advice available from a supervisor or engineering/design personnel. The position generally coordinates work details with other groups or sections within the department and may provide technical advice to Drafter 1.

Under some supervision, the CAD Technician provides engineering drawings and related design support for substation, relay, and line design job packages. The employee also performs drawing-room functions such as filing drawings and maintaining catalogs of engineering data. The description notes that the duties are not all-inclusive and that other related duties may be assigned to meet the organization's ongoing needs.

Requirements

• Successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• One to two years of training at a technical school or equivalent experience.
• Two to four years of experience preparing engineering drawings and diagrams as a Drafter 1.
• Proven AutoCAD and/or MicroStation skills.
• Strong PC and IT skills, including Word and Excel.
• Ability to work with individuals from varied socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and provide leadership to other team members.
• Self-motivated, team-oriented, and customer-oriented.

Nice To Haves

• Experience producing engineering-quality drawings using multiple CAD systems, such as AutoCAD and MicroStation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare diagrams, schematics, layouts, multiview drawings, and other drawings to scale in accordance with client requests.
• Perform mathematical, geometrical, and minor engineering computations.
• Create engineering drawings to scale using a computer-aided drafting system.
• Prepare detailed design drawings and related specifications for civil and electrical equipment using engineering sketches, specifications, related data, and drawings to determine design factors such as the size, shape, and arrangement of parts.
• Produce structure, schematic, foundation, grounding, steel, layout, equipment, apparatus, wiring, panel, AC and DC, one-line, and other drawings needed for substation, relay, and line design job packages.
• File drawings, maintain catalogs of engineering data, and perform other routine drawing-room functions as required.
• Coordinate work details with other groups or sections within the department.
• Provide technical advice to Drafter 1 when required.
