This is an intermediate-level position requiring satisfactory performance of tasks assigned at the CAD Technician I level. The CAD Technician II exercises some independent responsibility in resolving problems, handling communications, and understanding department and work-unit procedures. The role performs moderately complex, non-routine drafting assignments from rough or general drawings, sketches, or layouts, including irregular shapes, multiple functions, and precise positional relationships between components. Work is performed independently after the initial assignment, with advice available from a supervisor or engineering/design personnel. The position generally coordinates work details with other groups or sections and may provide technical advice to Drafter 1. Under some supervision, the CAD Technician II prepares diagrams, schematics, layouts, multiview drawings, and other scaled drawings in response to client requests. The role uses computer-aided drafting systems for engineering drawings and performs mathematical, geometrical, and minor engineering computations. It produces detailed design drawings and related specifications for civil/electrical equipment based on engineering sketches, specifications, and related data, determining factors such as size, shape, and arrangement of parts. Drawing types may include structural, schematic, foundation, grounding, steel, layout, equipment, apparatus, wiring, panel, AC and DC, one-line, and other drawings needed for substation, relay, and line design job packages. The position also files drawings, maintains catalogs of engineering data, and performs other routine drawing-room functions as required.
