CAD Admin

Pacific Fusion•San Leandro, CA
•$140,000 - $180,000

About The Position

Pacific Fusion is hiring a CAD Administrator to support engineering productivity across its fusion demonstration system. The role owns the configuration, maintenance, optimization, and user support of the company’s CAD tools and standard libraries, centered on PTC Creo and Windchill. It works at the intersection of design engineering, IT, and PLM to enable engineers, designers, scientists, and technicians to develop complex mechanical and electrical assemblies efficiently. The administrator will manage CAD software and its integration with PLM, establish and enforce company-wide CAD standards, troubleshoot issues, train users, and optimize the CAD environment. The role will also lead a phased effort to automate drawing creation and initial checking. Applicants should have at least four years of relevant CAD administration, system engineering, or CAD/PLM application support experience in hardware design or manufacturing.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in CAD Administration, CAD System Engineering, or CAD/PLM Application Support in a hardware design or manufacturing environment.
  • Deep administrative expertise with major CAD platforms such as PTC Creo Parametric, SolidWorks, or Altium, including their system configuration tools.
  • Hands-on experience managing CAD-to-PLM integrations, specifically PTC Windchill CAD Data Management (PDMLink / Workgroup Managers).
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing CAD part libraries, start parts, design templates, and modeling standards.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for complex client-side CAD crashes, file dependencies, and dataset integrity issues.
  • Proactive, self-starting approach and ability to navigate ambiguity in a first-of-a-kind research project.
  • Excellent communication and customer-service mindset to support and influence cross-functional teams of scientists and engineers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CAD automation, scripting (such as Creo Toolkit, Python, or VB.net), or macro development to streamline repetitive design tasks.
  • Experience managing CAD/PLM environments in a high-complexity hardware startup or national laboratory environment, such as SNL, LANL, or LLNL.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, configure, and maintain CAD software tools, including Creo Parametric.
  • Manage CAD software licensing, user accounts, access permissions, server deployments, and software updates in partnership with IT and the PLM Administrator.
  • Establish, standardize, and maintain CAD libraries, seed files, drawing templates, start parts, and commercial off-the-shelf component catalogs.
  • Develop, document, and enforce CAD modeling best practices, layer standards, parametric modeling conventions, and drawing standards.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshoot CAD crashes, performance bottlenecks, workspace synchronization issues, and assembly corruption.
  • Onboard and train design engineers, technicians, and contractors on company CAD standards, modeling workflows, and Windchill CAD integration.
  • Optimize CAD environment performance, including local vault cache configurations, workstation hardware recommendations, and graphics driver settings.
  • Lead a phased effort to automate drawing creation and initial checking to increase engineering throughput.

Benefits

  • Industry-competitive salary
  • Equity plan
  • 6% employer 401k matching
  • Generous paid time off, including sick leave, vacation, and paid family leave
