The Cabler 1 Operator is a medium skilled role that is responsible for safe and efficient operations of the machine, including loading/unloading reels, making hook splices, reading and interpreting production orders, selecting, identifying and installing tooling to meet production order specifications, adjusting lay length and binder tightness, loading binder, loading fillers and operating longitudinal taping head. For example, some machines that would be ran are: Drum Twister (Heflin and SCUPP), Cabling and Shielding Machines, Bunchers or Twisters (VRP). This role requires the ability to work under supervision and maintain ongoing communication with the supervisor and peers through verbal instruction and reports. The operator is responsible for completing production orders to customer specifications or other requirements, thereby producing a quality product that can be delivered to the customer on time. Machine inspections, putting scrap into designated bins, and any other job duties as assigned are also part of the responsibilities. Cross-training on equipment within the identified workgroup and rotating on a set frequency within the workgroup to maintain skill proficiency is required. Quality checks on products, maintaining general housekeeping, using shop floor correctly, and complying with legislative regulations are essential. The operator must ensure quality inspection of products compared to production order and immediately report quality issues to the supervisor or quality manager. Working safely is a condition of employment, requiring adherence to Southwire safety rules, good housekeeping, following all safety procedures and rules, properly wearing all required PPE, reviewing and knowing all Job Hazard Analyses and Safety Data Sheets, maintaining all work areas to 5S standards, performing pre-operation safety inspections, and following all company environmental rules/procedures.
