About The Position

The Level 2 Cable Technician is an intermediate-level technician responsible for installing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting copper and fiber-optic cabling systems in commercial, industrial, and data center environments. This role requires strong hands-on fiber experience, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to safety, quality, and industry standards.

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of structured cabling experience with strong fiber exposure
  • Proven experience in fiber termination, splicing, and testing
  • Ability to read blueprints, riser diagrams, and cabling schematics
  • Experience in data center, enterprise, or telecom environments preferred
  • Hands-on experience with Fusion splicers, cleavers, OTDRs, power meters, and Cable certification tools (Fluke, etc.)
  • Comfortable using hand tools, lifts, ladders, and cable-pulling equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working in ceilings, raised floors, and confined spaces
  • Fiber optics (splicing, testing, troubleshooting)

Responsibilities

  • Install, route, secure, and label structured cabling systems, including Copper: Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A and Fiber: Single-mode (OS2), Multi-mode (OM3/OM4)
  • Perform fiber terminations using fusion splicing, mechanical splicing, and pre-terminated solutions
  • Install and manage fiber enclosures, splice trays, patch panels, cassettes, and LIUs
  • Build and cable equipment racks, cabinets, ladder racks, and pathway systems
  • Ensure proper cable management, bend radius, and grounding standards
  • Test and certify fiber links using OTDR, Light source & power meter, and Fiber inspection scopes
  • Perform continuity, polarity, loss, and reflectance testing
  • Troubleshoot issues such as high loss, breaks, dirty end faces, and connector defects
  • Clean and inspect fiber connections to industry best practices
  • Test and certify copper cabling using Fluke or equivalent testers
  • Identify and resolve termination, performance, and pathway issues
  • Label cables, ports, and panels per project standards
  • Maintain detailed test results, fiber strand documentation, and as-built drawings
  • Ensure compliance with TIA/EIA, BICSI, and customer standards
  • Work independently or alongside technicians and project leads
  • Mentor Level 1 technicians and provide on-site guidance
  • Support network cutovers, data center migrations, and maintenance windows
