This position involves setting up, racking, splicing, transferring, repairing, rearranging, bonding, pressurizing, and testing aerial, underground, and buried cable. The role includes mounting, cutting-in, and repairing cable terminal and load coil cases, as well as rearranging service drops, aerial, and buried jumper wire and step poles. The Cable Splicer will operate company vehicles and perform work under minimum supervision. The nature of this work involves a variety of tasks with general guidelines for instructions, practices, and procedures in making transfers, line cuts, and cable rearrangements. The role requires handling and climbing ladders and poles, working at heights in boom trucks, and entering various confined spaces like tunnels, buildings, trenches, crawl spaces, and manholes to place materials. It involves working with small hand tools, mechanical equipment, and test equipment, connecting wires and cables to telephone equipment, and splicing done by twisting, soldering, or using prescribed wire connectors for various cable types. The position also includes placing and connecting cable terminals and NIDS, reading and interpreting cut sheets and work order prints, keeping detailed written records, and using electrical test equipment to verify and determine defective wires and perform cable acceptance tests. Additionally, the role involves loading tools and materials onto vehicles, driving to work locations, checking for gas in manholes, emptying water and debris, and testing cable pressure systems and closures for leaks. Additional duties may be required by the Company.
