This role involves setting up, racking, splicing, transferring, repairing, rearranging, bonding, pressurizing, and testing aerial, underground, and buried cable. The Cable Splicer will also mount, cut-in, and repair cable terminal and load coil cases, and rearrange service drops, aerial, and buried jumper wire and step poles. The position requires operating company vehicles and performing work under minimum supervision. The nature of the work involves a variety of tasks with general guidelines for making transfers, line cuts, and cable rearrangements. Responsibilities include handling and climbing ladders and poles, working at heights in boom trucks, and entering confined spaces like tunnels, trenches, and manholes. The role requires working with small hand tools, mechanical equipment, and test equipment to connect wires and cables, understanding written specifications, and following established procedures. Splicing involves twisting, soldering, or using prescribed wire connectors for various cable types and covering conductors with insulating materials. The Cable Splicer will place and connect cable terminals and NIDS, and frequently push, pull, and lift moderate to heavy objects. Reading and interpreting cut sheets and work order prints, keeping detailed written records of work activity, and placing splice closures are also key duties. The role involves using electrical test equipment to identify defective wires and perform cable acceptance tests. Additionally, the Cable Splicer will load tools and materials onto company vehicles, drive to work locations, use test equipment to check for gas in manholes, and test cable pressure systems and closures for leaks. Additional duties may be assigned by the Company.
