The Cable Splicer is responsible for a variety of tasks related to the setup, splicing, transfer, repair, rearrangement, bonding, pressurization, and testing of aerial, underground, and buried cable. This role involves mounting, cutting-in, and repairing cable terminal and load coil cases, as well as rearranging service drops, aerial, and buried jumper wire and step poles. The position requires operating company vehicles and performing work under minimum supervision. The nature of the work involves diverse tasks with general guidelines, requiring the ability to handle ladders and poles, work at heights, and enter various confined spaces. The role involves using small hand tools, mechanical equipment, and test equipment for connecting wires and cables, understanding written specifications, and following established procedures. Splicing may be done by twisting, soldering, or using prescribed wire connectors for various cable types. The position also includes placing and connecting cable terminals and NIDS, frequent pushing, pulling, and lifting of moderate to heavy objects, reading and interpreting cut sheets and work order prints, keeping detailed written records, and using electrical test equipment to identify defective wires and perform cable acceptance tests. Additionally, the role involves loading tools and materials onto vehicles, driving to work locations, checking for gas in manholes, emptying manholes, testing cable pressure systems, and testing closures for leaks. Additional duties may be assigned by the Company.
