About The Position

American Hydro is seeking a Buyer for its York, Pennsylvania facility. The Buyer is a strategic procurement professional responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing materials, components, and services for a heavy-fabricating manufacturing environment. The position manages complex, high-value purchasing across a global supply base, supporting cost competitiveness, continuity of supply, and quality and delivery requirements. The Buyer works with engineering, operations, quality, and finance to support production schedules and long-term business objectives. The role includes developing sourcing strategies, qualifying suppliers, negotiating agreements, monitoring supplier performance, and using purchasing data to inform decisions. It also supports purchase-demand monitoring, order expediting, logistics and customs activities, and compliance with ISO 9001 purchasing requirements. The position is based in a normal office environment, with some interaction in a heavy steel fabrication environment, and requires 10% travel.

Requirements

Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, blueprint reading, and quality assurance procedures.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Power BI.
Proficiency using ERP systems to support purchasing activities; Epicor is specified.
Associate degree or bachelor's degree preferred, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute sourcing strategies for raw materials, fabricated components, capital equipment, and specialized services used in heavy manufacturing.
Identify, evaluate, and qualify global and domestic suppliers for capability, capacity, and compliance with technical and quality standards.
Lead supplier negotiations focused on cost reduction, long-term agreements, risk mitigation, and performance improvement.
Monitor supplier performance using KPIs such as on-time delivery, quality, and cost competitiveness.
Drive supplier development initiatives to strengthen supply chain resilience and reduce total cost of ownership.
Monitor reporting and the ERP system for purchase demand requirements.
Expedite or follow up on purchases when required and update records when ship dates change.
Negotiate blanket orders with suppliers for frequently needed materials.
Support logistics and customs activities.
Use data analytics across spend categories to support organizational decision-making through Power BI.
Satisfy ISO 9001 Quality Standard requirements as they apply to purchasing functions.
