About The Position

The Buyer of Food Service is responsible for purchasing items based on vendor contracts and par levels utilizing computer systems. This role requires a full understanding of CMAs (Cost Management Agreements) and ensuring the purchase of the highest quality products for the best value. The buyer will maintain and update order guides as necessary, monitor and collaborate on the surveillance and security of food and supply inventory, and monitor expenditures for budget compliance. Additionally, the buyer will inspect delivered products against established standards, read and understand invoices, and know procedures for obtaining credit from vendors for discrepancies. This position involves consulting with Supervisors, Managers, or Directors and vendors on inventory management, maintaining appropriate record keeping, and monitoring the requisition, distribution, and inventory of products, reporting variances to the Director/Manager. The buyer is also responsible for maintaining storeroom and refrigerator areas to meet all standards for food safety and sanitation, following proper hand hygiene, and performing other job duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
  • 1 year of relevant experience in a high-volume restaurant, hospital, or Institution is required, or commiserate education and/or experience required.
  • FHC - Food Handlers Certificate 30 Days Required.
  • Reading, basic math, written language in English is required.
  • Understanding of safe food handling and quality standards of food products.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Good communication and organizational skills to exercise independent judgment.
  • Basic knowledge of food budget and ability to adjust costs accordingly.

Responsibilities

  • Purchase items based on vendor contracts and par levels utilizing computer.

  • Maintain/update order guides as necessary.
  • Monitor and collaborate the surveillance and/or security of the food and supply inventory.
  • Monitor expenditures for budget compliance.
  • Inspect delivered products against established standards; rejects products not meeting those standards.
  • Reads and understands invoices; knows procedures for obtaining credit from vendors for discrepancy in invoicing.
  • Consults with Supervisors , Managers or Directors and vendors, as appropriate, on inventory management.
  • Maintains appropriate record keeping.
  • Monitor the requisition , distribution and inventory of products.
  • Report variances to Director/Manager.
  • Maintain storeroom and refrigerator areas to meet all standards for food safety and sanitation.
  • Follows proper hand hygiene.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager.
