THE ROLE Lead Software Engineer, Derivatives Investments & Operations Technology, serves as a lead developer for MFS’s global investment professionals. This role is responsible for the successful implementation of the Derivatives Platform and support solutions that enable investment decision-making and research workflows that are aligned with the business strategy and technical architecture. The Lead Software Engineer also serves as a subject matter expert for the Derivatives platform and mentor’s members of the team. WHAT YOU WILL DO Development, Solution Delivery, and Business Relationship Management Lead the development of Derivatives Platform capabilities by understanding business domains, workflows, and identifying opportunities for enhancement. Partner with product owners, business analysts, software developers and other agile teams to deliver high quality derivatives investment technology solutions for financial derivative instruments that meet client and business needs. Interpret business requirements, analyze environment, map requirements to design, codes, debugs, unit tests programs to deliver final product, define priorities, and coordinate delivery timelines across time zones and cross functional groups. Operate effectively within a global matrixed environment, collaborating with global teams (e.g., Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Data, Application Support) to resolve issues, track progress, and ensure follow through. Ensure local solutions are implemented in alignment with global standards, policies, and risk controls. Troubleshoot and resolve issues in accordance with established SLAs, documenting recurring problems and driving improvements. Uphold service level commitments and champion continuous process improvements to enhance support quality and application reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in investment platform application development, including 1–2 years supporting complex, multi layered business applications.
  • Deep understanding of investment management technologies and workflows across asset classes (derivatives, fixed income, equities), research, trading, and data domains.
  • Experience supporting front office teams such as portfolio managers, analysts, and traders, with an ability to translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
  • Strong technical foundation in software development or application support environments, including hands on experience with SQL, scripting languages, and diagnostic/monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure concepts such as desktop environments, networking, cloud platforms, data integration, and cybersecurity standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a global, matrixed environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management capabilities, with the ability to balance daily production support responsibilities with longer term strategic initiatives.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to identify root causes and drive continuous improvement in application stability and support processes.

  • Experience with Azure Cloud Development
  • Experience with a commercial derivative vendor platform, e.g. Calypso, FIS, Murex
  • Experience with Charles River Investment Management System
