About The Position

Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer at the Penn Center for Innovation (PCI), the Senior Business Systems Analyst will be responsible for providing a full range of systems support, project management, critical analysis and software support for PCI staff and the university research community. The position serves both as a technical and business analyst supporting PCI systems including some hosted/maintained centrally by Information Systems and Computing (ISC) and others supplied/hosted by external vendors. The incumbent will have strong work autonomy; support sql database systems, including writing queries, functions; conduct project planning, project management, and project implementation; and offer technical advice and support for IT solutions and initiatives; lead appropriate standards and requirement gathering in order to translate business needs into technical solutions; conduct tests or test planning sessions; provide input for feasibility and prepare user/technical documentation. The Senior Business Systems Analyst will investigate, explore & recommend new technology solutions to appropriately solve business issues; understand and implement responsible adoption of AI-enabled tools, including evaluation of value, risk, privacy, accessibility, and support implications. They will understand the interoperability between systems and processes that impact multiple computing environments, work to detailed schedules; devise procedures to solve complex problems utilizing emerging technology considering infrastructure requirements & limitations; & effectively balance the delivery of solutions which streamline processes & provide an improved customer service experience. They will ensure excellent communication with all stakeholders, securing appropriate buy-in & approvals where necessary. The position supervises the Business Systems Analyst, and oversees the relationship with Hire IT including desktop support and inventory management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science and 3 to 5 years of experience in IT applications and/or business process analysis or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Intermediate SQL or other programming skills.
  • Progressively responsible experience within large scale administrative computing environment; strong technology skills, creative, innovative in the use of technology.
  • Excellent analytical & problem solving skills and demonstrated experience in needs assessment and requirements gathering.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work effectively within tight turnaround schedules.
  • Excellent customer service, verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience in project leadership and relationship management highly desired.
  • Familiarity with responsible adoption of AI-enabled tools, including evaluation of value, risk, privacy, accessibility, and support implications.
  • Familiarity with technology commercialization, IP law, and/or technology licensing.

Responsibilities

  • Employs project management techniques to perform upgrades, new module installs, and system configuration request for Minuet application software. Leads in the development, validation and execution of comprehensive implementation and test plans.
  • Leads effort to devise, design and formulate systems requirements, both computer and application, for new software requests and AI utilization. Communicates clearly defined specs to clients. Devise or modify project plans to solve complex problems and/or implement new software applications.
  • Serves as System Administrator for Inteum application and manages relationships with vendors, consultants, and Penn ISC as it pertains to support of Inteum. Performs security administration, training, and user provisioning activities.
  • Performs routine operational support defined in departmental operating procedures which include error log management, batch process oversight, maintenance activities, sql query development, performance monitoring, and system configuration.
  • Work with the Communication and Marketing Manager to manage and support PCI's website
  • Acts as direct supervisor of the Business Systems Analyst
  • Effectively manages relationship and support provided by Hire IT
