About The Position

The ME & Facilities Business Planner supports the functional leader in organizing and executing the business, including staff meetings and special assignments. The role supports portfolio and business planning processes and Safe Observation Tour schedules, and coordinates plant Information Life Cycle Management activities. It also oversees and supports Additive Manufacturing (3D printing) operations, including request prioritization, design and development, and alignment with business needs. The planner monitors assignments, priority goals, and requirements for complex projects; maintains project lists and business cases, including deliverables, benefits, and timing; supports functional competitive assessments; and collects and analyzes key operating metrics. The role may provide occasional Controls or Mechanical Engineering technical support on the manufacturing floor, serve as a backup Asset Lead, and develop presentations for all levels of management. The position is onsite at GM’s Detroit/Hamtramck plant and requires the ability to rotate through all three shifts and work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed. Relocation benefits are not provided.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
At least 2 years of experience in business planning or relevant experience.
In-depth knowledge of manufacturing controls and processes, lean production principles, and quality standards.
Good communication skills to collaborate effectively with team leaders, union representatives, and management.
Ability to work or rotate through all three shifts (first, second, and third).
Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Ability to drive team outcomes and influence cross-functional groups without direct supervisory authority.
Mentoring and coaching skills to foster a collaborative, high-performing work environment.
Strong analytical skills to assess production monitoring data and provide help with vehicle broadcasting in the general assembly area as needed.
Understanding of business processes and ability to ensure adherence to GM internal standards, union agreements, and regulatory requirements.
Must not require GM immigration-related sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) experience.
Experience with Maintenance Systems such as Maximo or TPM.
Experience with manufacturing plant floor systems such as GPM&C, PR&T, GEPICS, and GSIP, and with change management initiatives in a manufacturing environment.
Track record of influencing and driving team performance through strategic workforce planning and targeted training initiatives without direct people management.
Ability to use data-driven insights to develop and implement innovative solutions that enhance operational performance across complex production systems.

Responsibilities

Support and coordinate plant Information Life Cycle Management (ILM) activities.
Oversee and support Additive Manufacturing (3D printing) operations, coordinating activities, prioritizing requests, supporting design and development, and aligning work with business needs.
Monitor assignments, priority goals, and requirements in the preparation and execution of complex projects.
Maintain project lists and business cases, including deliverables, benefits, and timing.
Support the functional competitive assessment process.
Collect and analyze key operating metrics for the group.
Provide occasional Controls or Mechanical Engineering technical support on the manufacturing floor as needed.
Serve as a backup Asset Lead, providing coverage and support for asset-related responsibilities when required.
Develop and deliver presentations for all levels of management.
Handle a variety of special assignments.
