About The Position

The Watts College of Public Service & Community Solutions is seeking a confident business professional to join the College Business Services – Human Resources team. Under direction of the Associate Director, Human Resources and Human Resources Manager, this position will perform a variety of human resources activities including but not limited to: recruiting, onboarding, payroll, processing personnel transactions, audit and compliance, maintaining personnel files and serving as backup to the other members of the HR team. This position will be a main point of contact for new hires and current employees with general HR questions and will be responsible for processing a large volume of transactions on a regular basis. Interested candidates should be flexible to a change in the scope of duties as business needs are defined. This position is based at the Downtown Phoenix campus and may be eligible for flexible scheduling under the university’s Flexible Work Arrangements program as determined by the unit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Experience working in Higher Education, preferably at ASU
  • Experience working in a high-volume, customer service-oriented environment; call center or similar experience a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic human resource practices, regulations and standards
  • Experience in processing time administration and personnel transactions in an HRIS
  • Experience in creating job postings and recruitment processes
  • Experience with record keeping and file maintenance
  • Experience in drafting documentation with a strong attention to accuracy and detail
  • Experience working with Workday, CS Peoplesoft, HR Analytics, Service Now, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience performing audits and working with sensitive and/or confidential information
  • Experience working effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities and short deadlines
  • Experience developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships both within and across organizational areas
  • Experience planning, analyzing and establishing priorities
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all applicable federal, state and regulatory requirements, laws and standards

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with college administration and central OHR to coordinate all departmental human resource activities to ensure adherence with college and university policies, practices and regulations
  • Investigates payroll discrepancies and works as a liaison between the unit and human resources to reach a solution
  • Performs all activities associated with the Operational Timekeeper role to ensure accurate and timely recording of reported time entries and absence time entries for the assigned school and/or unit
  • Performs bi-weekly payroll reconciliation in coordination with payroll end dates
  • Prepares and saves audit documents for payroll reconciliations
  • Performs clerical functions with personal computers and appropriate software for various human resources processes including form preparation, report preparation, and other related functions
  • Coordinates and processes personnel searches and hiring for staff and students within the unit; supports with personnel searches across departments and provides onboarding assistance to new employees
  • Processes faculty hires as necessary within the unit(s), to include drafting offer letters, sending new hire information, and supporting with the ASU onboarding process
  • Processes employee job changes and payments in Workday as necessary within the unit(s); drafts necessary letters, memos, and other documentation
  • Serves as main contact for the unit(s) in order to provide accurate and timely hiring of graduate students each semester and academic year
  • Maintains personnel files consistent with University policies and practices; saves all relevant documentation according to department standards
  • Gathers relevant materials and coordinates with Associate Director and Director of Human Resources to assist in the handling of employee relations issues, complaints and/or grievances and determination of appropriate actions
  • May supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff or student workers
  • Participates in a variety of departmental, college, and university-wide initiatives and meetings to represent human resource interest and ensure integration/collaborative support of college and university wide interests
  • Performs other duties as assigned to ensure continual efficient operations of department to meet customer service needs
