About The Position

This role is for ambitious individuals who are eager to make an impact at a startup but are not yet sure of their specialized path. The Business Operations Associate will work closely with the Chief of Staff, collaborating across teams to ensure smooth operations and prevent issues from being overlooked. The role offers significant variety, with no two days being the same. Associates will engage in diverse tasks such as building financial models, negotiating vendor contracts, pitching to investors, and streamlining office logistics. This position requires a blend of execution-orientation and analytical strength, with involvement in technical, financial, and strategic workstreams. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who thrives on variety and is driven to get things done.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in operations, finance, consulting, or a high-growth startup environment.
  • Proficiency with SQL and advanced financial modelling (Excel/Google Sheets).
  • Ability to digest legal documents and comfort with commercial negotiations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A proactive 'doer' mindset, comfortable with variety and wearing multiple hats.
  • Comfort with tools like Notion, Slack, and G Suite.
  • Interest in building prototypes or testing new internal tools.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, in-person startup environment in Toronto.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in FinTech or high-growth Tech.
  • Experience in Investment Banking, VC, or Management Consulting.
  • Experience working with small, agile teams where processes had to be built from scratch.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Chief of Staff to execute key business operations initiatives.
  • Assist across departments including Strategic & Capital Initiatives (preparing investor relations materials, participating in investor pitching, building financial models).
  • Engage in Technical & Product Ops (building prototypes, automating workflows, using SQL for data insights).
  • Provide Commercial & Legal Support (reviewing legal documents, conducting due diligence, negotiating commercial terms).
  • Manage Projects across teams to ensure focus on priorities and unblock issues.
  • Oversee Office Operations to ensure smooth functioning of the downtown Toronto office.
  • Coordinate marketing campaigns or social content as needed.
