About The Position

The Business Office Representative Clerk supports Bergan Mercy Surgery Center by performing assigned business office functions, which may include medical records, credentialing, admissions and intake, accounts payable, billing, collections, insurance verification, transaction posting, and clinical logs. The role also supports surgery scheduling and related clerical operations. The representative schedules surgeries in the computer-based surgery template, records pertinent information, and responds to calls from physician offices about scheduling patients and procedures. The role answers calls pleasantly, addresses physician-office and patient needs promptly, takes messages, and transfers calls as needed. It handles pre-registration, confirms that authorization has been obtained from the physician’s office before scheduled surgery, completes registration paperwork, and uses the computer system to generate information for surgical and special procedures. Additional duties include maintaining a log of cancelled appointments; photocopying, mailing, preparing patient charts, faxing and retrieving documents; and keeping the surgery scheduling area clean and orderly. Scheduled cases are verified as soon as possible. Patients with financial responsibility are contacted promptly, informed of the center’s payment policies, and offered payment options when necessary. Insurance verification and patient calls must be clearly documented in the patient’s account.
