About The Position

The purpose of this position is to review local business licenses to ensure they comply with City ordinances. Conducts audits of business files, enforces delinquent license accounts, performs field inspections, issues Municipal Summons when necessary and remains aware of new projects that may generate continuing revenue. Cross trains for secondary duties of Finance Administrative Clerk to ensure continuation of work flow. This position works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Bookkeeping, or related major.
  • Two (2) years of experience in accounting, public relations, and general office procedures; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Accreditation in Business Licensing by the Municipal Association of South Carolina within three (3) years
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Responsibilities

  • Rolls business accounts at the end of the year and prepares documentation for annual renewals.
  • Compiles cover letters for the mailing of renewal applications; prints and reviews renewal applications for mailing.
  • Performs field enforcement of business license ordinances; conducts audits of business; makes on-site inspections of new businesses to ensure all licensing procedures are completed.
  • Processes renewal applications and provides licenses to the appropriate business.
  • Determines business classification; calculates the license tax
  • Audits and reports gross receipts reported on business license applications through tax returns, income statements, or any other means to determine gross income; compiles findings and notifies businesses of result.
  • Assists clerks, the general public, business owners, contractors, with questions regarding licensing requirements, fees, tax map numbers, proper paperwork requirements.
  • Rewards revenues to the appropriate accounts
  • Reconciles cash drawer daily
  • Obtains property and tax map numbers via aerial tax maps.
  • Issues Municipal Summons when appropriate and appears in court on the City's behalf.
  • Enters hospitality and accommodation tax payments when necessary
  • Enforces delinquent hospitality tax accounts
  • Performs general administrative/office duties as required, including typing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, answering the telephone, etc.
  • Continually stays up to date on all policy, procedure, and/or process changes.
  • Completes all work accurately, safely, and efficiently.
  • Keeps work area clean and safe.
  • Maintains any assigned equipment in safe and good operating condition.
  • Reports to Supervisor any suggested improvements or areas of concern.
  • Ensures professionalism and exceptional customer service during all interactions while performing job representing the City of Greer.
  • Exhibits strong ethical standards; ability to create trust and integrity with co-workers, customers, and community.
  • Adheres to Employee Handbook and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • Maintains regular and sustained attendance.
  • Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.
