About The Position

Under the direction of the License Collector, this role is responsible for issuing licenses and collecting fees for businesses operating within the City. The position also involves investigating and reporting violations of license ordinances. The essential functions of this job are critical, integral, necessary, crucial, primary, and fundamental. While this list is not exhaustive, incumbents are expected to perform these duties with or without reasonable accommodation. Duties may include inspecting businesses for proper licensing and permits, enforcing City business license and tax regulations, documenting project photos, investigating complaints and code violations, issuing notices and citations, collecting delinquent fees, assisting business owners with applications and compliance, maintaining records, preparing reports, updating databases, performing follow-ups with delinquent accounts, coordinating with other departments, conducting field inspections and audits, representing the City in hearings or court, building positive relationships with the business community, and patrolling the city in a vehicle while conducting inspections. Additional duties may be assigned as required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma and four years of training dealing with customer service in related field: or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Californian Driver’s License- Clean driving record
  • PC832-Certification must be obtained within 6 months of appointment
  • Knowledge of laws, ordinances, rules and regulations affecting business license enforcement.
  • Knowledge of functions, operations and objectives of municipal government.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of organization and analysis.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of record-keeping and reporting.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices involved in developing and implementing community-based programs.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of customer service.
  • Knowledge of report writing methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of computers and software applications.
  • Knowledge of safe driving principles and practices.
  • Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and analysis.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rule, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups or employee organizations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Ability to calculate percentage and decimal points.
  • Ability to apply common sense and understating to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral or, or diagram form.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect businesses to verify proper licenses and permits.
