Business Intelligence Intern
About The Position
We are seeking a motivated Business Intelligence Intern to support data-driven decision-making by developing visualization tools and reporting solutions. This role goes beyond building dashboards—it requires developing an understanding of internal business processes and translating that knowledge into effective data structures, metrics, and visualizations that support informed decision-making. This role emphasizes low-code and no-code tools, with a stronger focus on business understanding and analytical thinking than on advanced programming skills. By virtue of contract requirements, this position is only open to U.S. persons. Temporary housing may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, approved asylum seeker, etc.)
- Must be enrolled (or a recent graduate of) a graduate program in a relevant field, such as an MBA program
- Familiarity with business intelligence and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Excel)
- Foundational understanding of data analysis and data modeling
- Ability to learn and interpret business processes and translate them into data-driven solutions
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to explain insights and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders
Responsibilities
- Learn and analyze internal business processes, workflows, and operational priorities to identify meaningful data needs
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define key business questions and determine what data is required to support decision-making
- Evaluate how data is currently generated, captured, and stored, and recommend improvements where needed
- Gather, clean, and integrate data from multiple sources, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and usability
- Translate process knowledge into appropriate metrics, KPIs, and data models
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms
- Recommend effective visualization approaches based on the nature of the data, user needs, and decision context
- Present insights and recommendations that connect data outputs to operational or strategic actions
- Assist in automating data collection and reporting processes where possible
- Document data sources, business logic, assumptions, and visualization standards to support consistency and governance
- Other duties as assigned
