About The Position

The Business Information Architect is accountable for ensuring business meaning, data, systems, and processes are explicitly defined, aligned, and consistently applied across data domains and systems. This role collaborates with the HR Data Governance Director, Data Architects, IT Architects, and business stakeholders to ensure data architecture supports governance, analytics, and business objectives. The Business Information Architect focuses on establishing clear business vocabulary, definitions, and rules, and on creating data products that are valuable, usable, and trusted in analytical systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in data architecture, data governance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing business-aligned data architecture solutions and managing data products.
  • Demonstrate experience defining and governing business vocabulary, terms, and business rules in complex organizations.
  • Strong understanding of the distinction between business meaning, business rules, and technical implementations.
  • Strong understanding of data governance and data management principles.
  • Ability to express business terms and rules using appropriate modeling or documentation techniques; familiarity with data modeling tools is beneficial.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including Enterprise Data Architects, IT Architects, and business stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Ensure data, systems, and processes are aligned across data domains and systems.
  • Collaborate with the HR Data Governance Director, Data Architects, and IT Architects to align data architecture with business definitions, data governance frameworks and IT strategies.
  • Develop and maintain business concept models and vocabularies that define business meaning independent of systems and ensure appropriate alignment to downstream data models.
  • Ensure data integrity, consistency, and accuracy across systems by defining clear business rules and validating their correct enforcement across systems.
  • Define, document, and govern business terms, concepts, and definitions to ensure shared understanding across business and technology teams.
  • Maintain traceability between business terms and business rules, and ensure they are correctly reflected in downstream data and system implementations
  • Create and manage data products to be used in analytical systems, ensuring they are grounded in well-defined business concepts discoverable, reusable, and aligned with governance standards.
  • Define data product characteristics, such as semantic consistency, data quality, accessibility, usability, scalability, and security.
  • Provide guidance on data architecture best practices and standards.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure system and data solutions faithfully implement agreed upon business meaning and rules.
