About The Position

Portland Bolt is seeking an energetic and driven Business Development Representative to join their growing sales team. This position focuses on generating new business opportunities with prospective customers through outbound prospecting, making 40+ calls per day. The BDR will qualify leads, gather project details, and transition prospects to Sales Representatives. The role will initially be office-based in Portland, OR, with the potential for limited outside sales in Oregon and Washington. Portland Bolt, founded in 1912, manufactures custom fasteners for construction and industrial projects and is a leader in the fastener and steel fabrication industry.

Requirements

  • Proven outside sales and/or prospecting experience, including high-volume calling
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills
  • High degree of organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple leads simultaneously
  • Persistent, self-motivated, and coachable
  • Willingness to travel regionally on a limited basis for customer visits and industry events

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
  • Industry experience in fasteners, construction, or steel fabrication is beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Prospect and develop new business opportunities through outbound calls, emails, and networking
  • Make 40+ calls daily to potential customers in the construction, steel fabrication, and fastener industries
  • Collect product and project-related information from prospective customers
  • Qualify leads and pass opportunities to Sales Representatives for quoting and order fulfillment
  • Potentially represent Portland Bolt in person at customer meetings and site visits
  • Collaborate with the sales and estimating teams to ensure smooth project handoffs
  • Maintain detailed records of prospecting activity and customer interactions in CRM
  • Potentially participate in trade shows after solid knowledge base has been developed
