About The Position

We are looking for a new member to join our Business Development team in New York City focusing on new project pursuits in the North and South American market. As Business Development Manager, you will support BIG in looking for new frontiers and projects that shape the future of our cities. You will be involved in developing market strategies, new client relationships, and securing new projects across a range of typologies. On a day-to-day basis, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for securing a project from start to finish, overseeing submarkets within the region, initiating proactive endeavors that support the larger market strategy, overseeing background tasks, and building relationships with a vast network of clients, consultants, and collaborators. As Business Development Manager, you will work directly with the Business Development Director and Partner, as well as the larger NYC office leadership and operations team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in architecture or related field of study
  • 5+ years of experience in a Business Development position in the North and/or South American market
  • Expert in Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g. InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel), and CRM systems
  • Strong understanding of architecture, design, and urban planning processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and fluency in English
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to meet deadlines, and manage one’s own time

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in a second language is not a requirement, but a huge plus

Responsibilities

  • Actively support the Business Development Team, including Heads of, BD Directors and Partners. Mentor members of the Business Development Team
  • Run multiple simultaneous potential project pursuits from start to finish including: Ability to turn a potential project lead into a project. Lead high level Client meetings including presentations. Run an acquisition process for a potential project including the development of a fee proposal, lead subsequent negotiations with Clients and consultants (including internal operations team members at BIG—such as Managing Director, Finance, Legal, Operations, etc.), and facilitate the handover to a Design Team. Vet all RFPs/RFQs/RFIs for a dedicated submarket. Prepare and produce RFP and RFQ submittals, including creating and editing graphic and written content for proposals, interview presentations, pitch decks, and general business development materials. Present strategic ideas within the submission and teaming process that distinguish the firm’s submission and point of view.
  • Host potential Clients in collaboration with Director or Partners. Lead the Client follow-up and internally assess and develop recommendations for new potential projects.
  • Maintain and expand Client and collaborator connections.
  • Lead office and project tours for Clients, consultants, and other VIPs.
  • Produce content independently while discussing key strategy points with BD Director & Team.
  • Initiate, lead, and deliver special projects and proactive initiatives.
  • Open new submarkets and lead new business for a submarket (i.e. region, typology, etc.) and/or discipline (i.e. landscape, interiors, etc.) including interfacing and strategy with senior internal team members at BIG (Partners, Directors, and Associates) and managing the pipeline for that submarket.
  • Represent BIG at events and conferences.
  • Take part in leadership pipeline meetings.
  • Maintain CRM databases (Sugar, Open Asset, Airtable) and report on new and potential projects to BD Director.
  • Assist with training of new team members, manage and contribute to team background tasks, and have the ability to manage output for any of the above processes.
  • Prepare regular status updates, ad-hoc and on a weekly basis.
