About The Position

The Business Development Manager plays a critical role in driving long term growth for Samuel Automation by actively developing new markets, identifying high value prospects, and building a strong pipeline across targeted manufacturing industries. This role focuses on early stage customer engagement, identifying opportunities, initiating conversations, and qualifying prospects for the Sales team. By combining strategic market insight with disciplined pipeline development, the Business Development Manager ensures a steady flow of new opportunities that support sustained revenue growth. Working in close collaboration with Sales, Applications, and Marketing, this position provides key input into market segmentation, targeting strategies, and customer engagement approaches. Success in this role establishes the foundation for strong commercial execution and long-term customer relationships.

Requirements

  • Strong ability to generate new business and proactively build early stage pipeline.
  • Demonstrated success engaging customers at operational and leadership levels.
  • Proven experience collaborating with Marketing to shape targeting and campaign activities.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and disciplined pipeline management practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate challenges and opportunities clearly.
  • Ability to manage multiple targets, initiatives, and timelines while maintaining structure and discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of experience in business development or B2B sales.
  • Strong background in automation, machinery, or engineered systems.
  • Experience working with automation companies, machine builders, or system integrators.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and develop a new business pipeline.
  • Experience in regulated or high precision manufacturing environments.
  • Background in capital equipment or automation sales.
  • Experience engaging customers in life sciences, pharmaceuticals, or advanced manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities within targeted sectors.
  • Build, manage, and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities for the sales team.
  • Engage early with prospective customers to understand manufacturing processes, operational challenges, and automation needs.
  • Develop strong relationships with operations, engineering, and plant leadership within target accounts.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Applications, and Marketing to align opportunity development with strategy.
  • Support market segmentation and account targeting initiatives, providing feedback on market trends and customer needs.
  • Represent Samuel Automation at trade shows, industry events, and customer site visits.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete CRM data to ensure full pipeline visibility and disciplined forecasting.
  • Deliver clear insights to internal stakeholders on emerging market needs, competitive dynamics, and areas of strategic growth.
