About The Position

Our client is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to develop and manage a commercial and industrial energy-efficiency pipeline throughout South Jersey. This position requires strong business development experience and direct knowledge of commercial and industrial energy-efficiency programs. The Business Development Manager will own opportunities from initial outreach through project closing and ongoing customer relationship management. Territory and Schedule: Territory primarily includes Gloucester, Camden, Burlington, and Mercer counties. Candidates must currently reside in New Jersey; Central or Southern New Jersey is strongly preferred. Attend a weekly sales meeting in Newark for approximately three hours. Perform fieldwork throughout the assigned territory two to three days per week. Must use a personal vehicle for business travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in management, engineering, business, or a related field with at least five years of experience in business development and energy-efficiency programs
  • In lieu of a degree, at least nine years of directly related experience
  • Commercial and industrial energy-efficiency experience is required
  • Strong business development experience, including proactive outreach, pipeline development, opportunity qualification, closing, and ongoing relationship management
  • Experience managing vendor performance and leading cross-functional teams
  • Management or leadership experience
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Must own a reliable vehicle and be comfortable traveling throughout the assigned territory

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a commercial and industrial energy-efficiency pipeline throughout the assigned territory
  • Conduct proactive outreach to identify, prospect, qualify, and close C&I energy-efficiency projects
  • Own opportunities from initial contact through closing and continued relationship management
  • Advance opportunities through a defined, multi-stage sales process using Salesforce and eTrac
  • Establish relationships with commercial customers, municipalities, community organizations, trade associations, and other territory partners
  • Serve as a program advocate and increase awareness of available C&I energy-efficiency programs
  • Capture customer feedback and field intelligence for program teams
  • Refer residential opportunities identified in the field to the appropriate residential program
  • Oversee office and field vendors contracted to deliver program services
  • Manage employee performance and ensure required safety protocols are followed
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional teams involving Customer Care, Contracting, Procurement, Legal, Marketing, IT, and other stakeholders
  • Support program delivery, improve the customer experience, and resolve business issues
  • Develop and maintain program processes, business controls, and compliance procedures
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities
  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators to ensure program delivery meets business-plan expectations and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare and present program and project status reports to customers and management
  • Assist with special projects as needed
