The Business Development Manager - Compressed Air is responsible for accelerating the growth of Aerzen USA’s compressed air business through the identification, development, and conversion of new business opportunities. This role serves as a market builder for a new division, developing channels to market, engaging strategic OEMs, identifying new applications, recruiting and supporting distributors, and creating demand for Aerzen compressed air solutions. Working closely with Product Management, Marketing, Engineering, Operations, and the broader Aerzen organization, the Business Development Manager develops and executes growth strategies that increase market awareness, generate qualified opportunities, and drive order intake. As opportunities mature, this role supports customers and channel partners through the full sales cycle from initial engagement through project execution.

Requirements

  • A four-year college degree required. Relevant technical and industry experience may be considered in lieu of degree where appropriate.
  • Area of Study: Engineering, Industrial Distribution, Business Administration, Marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive sales or business development experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years selling industrial equipment, rotating equipment, capital equipment, or engineered technical solutions.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with CRM systems such as Salesforce or equivalent.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of industrial process systems.
  • Excellent prospecting, networking, presentation, training, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong analytical and business-planning capability.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and opportunities simultaneously.
  • Self-starter capable of operating independently in a fast-paced growth environment while contributing to a matrixed team.
  • Results-oriented with demonstrated accountability for order intake, pipeline growth, margin performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to travel up to 60% of the time as needed for business needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Compressed air, energy-efficiency, or related industry certifications preferred but not required.
  • Experience with compressed air systems, rotary screw compressors, oil-free compressors, blowers, vacuum equipment, or related technologies preferred.
  • Experience developing distributors, representative organizations, OEM accounts, and strategic end-user relationships strongly preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems, product configurators, quotation tools, and sales reporting systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes strategic business plans to establish and grow Aerzen’s compressed air business.
  • Identifies, prioritizes, and develops new markets, applications, distributors, OEM partners, engineering firms, representative organizations, and strategic end users.
  • Creates and maintains a robust pipeline of opportunities through prospecting, cold calling, networking, industry engagement, referrals, digital marketing initiatives, and collaboration with the broader Aerzen sales organization.
  • Serves as the primary commercial point of contact for new compressed air business opportunities and strategic accounts during the market-development phase.
  • Recruits, onboards, trains, and supports distributor and channel partners to ensure they can effectively position, promote, sell, and support Aerzen compressed air solutions.
  • Develops strong relationships with key decision makers, engineering personnel, operations teams, maintenance leaders, procurement professionals, and executive stakeholders within target accounts.
  • Conducts product presentations, lunch-and-learns, training seminars, technical workshops, and customer education programs for end users, OEMs, engineering firms, and channel partners.
  • Supports customers in equipment selection, system configuration, energy-savings analysis, lifecycle cost evaluations, ROI calculations, specification reviews, and total cost of ownership assessments.
  • Prepares quotations, proposals, bid packages, commercial presentations, business cases, and supporting documentation required to convert opportunities into orders.
  • Negotiates pricing and commercial terms within established company guidelines and supports customer follow-up throughout the order-execution process.
  • Manages opportunities through the company CRM system and maintains accurate forecasts, pipeline metrics, target account plans, and activity reporting.
  • Collaborates with Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, and Operations to define product positioning, value propositions, competitive differentiation, technical requirements, and market-development strategies.
  • Monitors industry trends, competitor activities, emerging technologies, customer needs, and application opportunities and provides actionable market intelligence to company leadership.
  • Supports regional and national trade shows, industry conferences, customer events, association activities, webinars, and other lead-generation initiatives.
  • Develops target account lists, case studies, competitive analyses, customer success stories, supporting collateral, and sales-enablement tools that facilitate future regional sales expansion.
  • Supports direct marketing activities, including lead generation campaigns, digital marketing efforts, industry publication exposure, and customer engagement programs in coordination with Marketing.
  • Works within a matrixed team to utilize the support and knowledge of product management, application engineering, design engineering, operations, marketing, sales, and aftermarket teams.
  • Maintains a high level of customer focus, professionalism, integrity, compliance awareness, and urgency in all customer and internal interactions.
  • Ensures compliance with all company policies, safety requirements, and applicable federal, state, local, and customer requirements.
