About The Position

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking a Business Development Manager to join their Food team remotely in the United States. This role focuses on expanding Intertek's North American business for Food testing services specifically within the honey market. The objective is to strengthen existing customer relationships, discover new business opportunities, and establish Intertek as a premier provider of honey testing and quality analytics in North America. Intertek's Food Services aims to protect client brands and reputations through a robust food supply chain, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and public health. The company operates as a Total Quality Assurance Provider, dedicated to bringing quality, safety, and sustainability to life.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in business, food technology, chemistry, agricultural sciences, or a related field
  • Several years of experience in B2B sales, ideally in laboratory analytics/testing services, the food industry, or quality assurance/certification services
  • Experience in the North and/or Central American market
  • Travel up to 75% of the time within North America (client visits, trade fairs)
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record
  • Strong in new business acquisition combined with excellent qualities in managing existing accounts
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with strong results orientation
  • Ability to sell complex services in a clear and compelling way
  • Experience working in international and cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • High level of self-motivation and independence
  • Must reside in and be able to legally work in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of food regulations (e.g., FDA) is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Manage and further develop existing customers (key accounts)
  • Identify and acquire new clients, including honey importers, traders/distributors, exporters, and food manufacturers using honey as an ingredient
  • Build long-term, strategic customer relationships
  • Conduct contract negotiations and close service agreements
  • Establish a logistics hub to organize U.S. sample procurement
  • Sell laboratory analyses (e.g., authenticity testing, residue analysis, quality parameters)
  • Advise customers on quality standards, product safety, and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, import controls)
  • Develop customized testing solutions for clients
  • Analyze the North American honey and food testing market
  • Identify trends (e.g., food fraud, origin verification, sustainability)
  • Monitor competitors and derive effective sales strategies
  • Develop and execute a clear North American sales strategy with a strong focus on the U.S.
  • Strengthen market position with the goal of becoming the market leader in the honey testing segment
  • Participate in relevant trade fairs and industry events
  • Collaborate closely with the laboratory in Bremen - Germany, marketing, and product management teams
