Business Development Manager

DRCNew York, NY

About The Position

Dubin Research & Consulting (DRC) is seeking a highly sophisticated Business Development Manager to own proposal development, conflicts coordination, and strategic positioning for new engagements. This role is designed for an experienced attorney who understands how cases are won, and who can translate complex legal and factual material into clear, juror‑ and judge‑relevant strategy. This position requires real legal knowledge, experience, and judgment, exceptional attention to detail, and discretion in external communications. For the right candidate, this role offers meaningful client‑facing opportunities, including participation in pitch meetings and strategic discussions alongside DRC’s President, Managing Director, Chief Strategy Officer, and other senior leaders. This position sits at the center of how DRC grows and presents its strategic advantage. The Business Development Manager ensures that every proposal, engagement letter, presentation, and client communication reflects what sets DRC apart: deep trial judgment, empirically grounded strategy, and disciplined execution. For the right individual, this role offers long‑term growth, exposure to elite trial teams, and increasing responsibility in shaping client relationships—not just supporting them.

Requirements

  • J.D. required
  • 5–10+ years of experience practicing law, working in litigation strategy, or serving in a trial‑focused consulting environment.
  • Proven ability to identify juror‑relevant issues and think rigorously about how cases will be perceived by decision‑makers.
  • Demonstrated skill in creating high‑impact PowerPoint presentations, including effective use of visual structure, animation, and embedded media.
  • Strong drafting skills across proposals, engagement letters, and client‑facing correspondence.
  • Exceptional attention to detail; accuracy, consistency, and follow‑through are non‑negotiable.
  • Confident, polished communicator comfortable engaging with senior executives and clients.
  • Highly organized, accountable, and capable of independently owning complex, high‑stakes workstreams.
  • Collaborative, intellectually curious, and respected for sound judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end preparation of customized proposals and pitch materials for active litigation matters, from intake through final submission.
  • Draft all cover emails accompanying proposals and engagement letters, ensuring communications are precise, professional, and appropriate for senior legal audiences.
  • Review pleadings, complaints, motions, and case summaries to identify case‑specific issues appropriate for judge or juror focus groups.
  • Develop disciplined issue lists focused on juror comprehension, skepticism, emotional response, and decision-making drivers.
  • Create high-quality PowerPoint presentations for proposals and pitches, incorporating animations, video clips, graphics, and other visually engaging elements where appropriate.
  • Partner with DRC’s legal and design teams to ensure materials clearly communicate complex ideas, reinforce trial themes, and reflect DRC’s premium positioning.
  • Draft engagement letters for each prospective new matter using DRC‑approved templates, tailoring scope and descriptions with accuracy and care.
  • Serve as the primary owner of conflicts initiation and coordination for all new business.
  • Gather, verify, and document party, firm, and matter information; flag issues or ambiguities and escalate appropriately.
  • Ensure conflicts are cleared, and engagement documentation is complete before work begins, maintaining rigorous process discipline throughout intake.
  • Draft clear, accurate, and polished case descriptions for inclusion in DRC’s internal Case Database and public‑facing website.
  • Review DRC’s database to identify relevant prior matters for new opportunities.
  • Prepare Representative Matter lists for proposals and pitch decks that are precise, credible, and strategically aligned by jurisdiction, subject matter, posture, and decision‑maker.
  • Exercise sound judgment in selecting experience examples that genuinely strengthen DRC’s credibility with sophisticated clients.
  • Apply attorney‑level judgment in evaluating case fit, research design considerations, and strategic positioning.
  • Advise senior leadership on how DRC should present its value in specific matters.
  • Distinguish between issues best suited for empirical testing, demonstratives, trial presentation strategy, or advisory support.
  • Confidently participate in pitch meetings and prospective‑client discussions, virtually and in person.
  • Partner with senior DRC leaders to explain strategy, research approaches, and proposed deliverables.
  • Serve as a polished, detail‑oriented representative of the firm in communications with law firm partners, litigation teams, and in‑house counsel.
