Business Development Manager, Commerce Media

Impact.comNew York, NY
$100,000 - $120,000

About The Position

impact.com operates a performance marketing platform that connects retailers, publishers, and advertisers. Its commerce media products let these parties form partnerships and place relevant products across publisher content and retail sites. One of the fastest-growing parts of that business lives at the highest-intent moment in ecommerce - the point where a shopper has already decided to buy - where matching the right offer to the right shopper turns intent into incremental revenue for merchants, advertisers, and shoppers alike. This role sits at the center of that surface. The Business Development Manager owns the commercial relationship for these products and is accountable for their adoption, revenue and growth across a portfolio of merchants and advertisers. This is a true ownership role, not a pure sales seat and not a cold-calling one. Qualified, warm opportunities are sourced and handed over by the sales team - what happens next is yours: pitching the product to merchants who are already using impact tech, closing them, leading their onboarding and activation, and then running and growing the account over time. You'll also inherit an existing book of active clients that you're expected to nurture, expand and monetize. The role blends commercial ownership with product ownership. You are the commercial contact for your portfolio, while integration engineers handle the technical build. You'll lead commercially with merchants, advise advertisers on their campaigns and manage technical conversations with product and engineering teams. You are fluent in both affiliate metrics and supply-side ad-tech metrics. This is an individual-contributor role for someone with the experience to run a large book of business, show initiative and step up into greater ownership within a fast-growing part of the Spot Commerce Media unit. You report to the General Manager and work within the commerce media team.

Requirements

  • Understanding of the economics of the purchase moment — how relevance and offer placement drive incremental revenue and conversion at the point of sale, and how to grow yield on a high-intent surface.
  • Three or more years in customer success, account management, or partner success — ideally in affiliate marketing, ad technology, ecommerce media, or a commerce platform — with a record of managing a portfolio across onboarding, performance, and growth, and measurable commercial outcomes.
  • Experience in a commercial, sales, or account-management role, or in product / conversion-rate optimization.
  • Fluency in supply and yield metrics: fill rate, ad requests, impressions, viewability, eCPM, and page yield.
  • Fluency in affiliate metrics: EPC, AOV, CPA and CPC, conversion rate, cookie window, and last-click attribution and its limitations.
  • Ad-tech literacy: CPC and CPM models, contextual targeting, ad serving, inventory quality, and ad-tag mechanics, including a functional understanding of JSON, oRTB, and API integrations.
  • Ability to build reporting summaries, commercial decks, and revenue forecasts without support.
  • Ability to hold technical conversations with ad-ops, programmatic, product, and merchant-integration teams.
  • Clear written and verbal communication across editorial, technical, and commercial stakeholders.
  • Ability to run a large book of business and competing priorities without close direction.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct affiliate marketing experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience with an ecommerce media network, offer/relevance marketplace, or a commerce platform's monetization surface — you've seen how matching the right advertiser offer to the right shopper at the right moment turns intent into incremental revenue for everyone involved.
  • Direct experience selling to, partnering with, or managing relationships with advertisers and brands — you understand how they think about spend, incrementality, and return, and you can hold your own in that commercial conversation.
  • A track record with technology implementations that lift conversion at the point of purchase — you've worked hands-on with the systems that turn a completed sale into additional revenue and a better shopper experience, and you know what it takes to get merchants live and performing.
  • Deep familiarity with ecommerce platforms and their commerce infrastructure, Shopify especially — Shopify Plus, the app ecosystem, integrations, and merchant workflows — and comfort being the commercial voice in a room that's also technical.
  • Comfort operating across two vocabularies at once: affiliate and performance-marketing metrics on one side, supply-side / yield metrics on the other. You've lived at the intersection of advertiser demand and merchant monetization.
  • A history of owning a book of business independently — growing adoption and revenue across a portfolio without close direction.

Responsibilities

  • Grow adoption and revenue of these products across a portfolio of merchants and advertisers.
  • Actively work with merchants and the team to improve monetization outcomes.
  • Produce briefing materials, pitch decks, and implementation documentation for each client.
  • Be the voice of the customer - collect feedback, results, and insights and communicate them back to the business.
  • Lead onboarding and activation of these products, including setup, integration validation, and go-live, coordinating the client's technical teams with support from integration engineers.
  • Troubleshoot tag and/or API integration issues at go-live, escalating custom build requirements to integration engineers.
  • Lead the creation of repeatable playbooks that move clients off manual processes and onto the automated model.
  • Monitor CPC delivery, fill rate, CTR, eCPM, revenue per click, and yield.
  • Identify optimization opportunities and implement them.
  • Advise on placement, formatting, and layout to increase page yield, and on viewability, ad load, frequency, share of voice, and user experience.
  • Deliver performance reviews and insights that help merchants, advertisers, and impact.com improve.
  • Resolve client issues and manage resolution timelines, escalating to technical teams where required.
  • Support clients in attribution conversations with brands, positioning the CPC model alongside existing performance structures.
  • Work with brand-side Success and Sales teams and the campaign team to match inventory and activity to active campaigns.
