About The Position

Light is a licensed retailer that makes new energy structures possible. The platform enables flexible load arrangements for campuses to grow without increasing peak demand, retail supply for surrounding neighborhoods, community DER packages, and household electricity benefits within community benefit agreements. The company is hiring its first business development lead for data centers to own the segment, including identifying and engaging hyperscalers, operators, and campus developers, and collaborating on energy solutions. The role involves building relationships across various functions, sharing learnings at industry events, converting relationships into signed partnerships, and providing market feedback to inform product development. Success in the first six months includes launching partnerships in retail choice markets that benefit both the campus and the surrounding community.

Requirements

  • 10-15 years of experience.
  • Experience working at a hyperscaler, campus developer, or operator, in a role that touched power, community, or economic development.
  • Proven ability to understand what a proposal needs to survive an internal review.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of personalities and build lasting relationships.
  • Comfortable in diverse contexts: site teams, executive structuring sessions, utility front offices, public meetings.
  • Interest in ambiguous problems and opaque institutions.
  • Motivation by impact and what gets built, rather than title.
  • Comfortable with approximately 50% travel to sites, events, and partner meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Map the landscape of hyperscalers, operators, and campus developers, and engage the ones whose objectives align with Light's.
  • Build relationships across functions such as power, economic development, community affairs, entitlements, and site leadership.
  • Share learnings from programs at industry events, trade groups, and policy research forums.
  • Jointly define problems and construct programs such as flexible load pilots, retail supply around a campus, DER packages, or CBA language.
  • Translate market feedback into a clear point of view on industry trends and future product development.
