About The Position

The main function of this position is to assist with the coordination, marketing, implementation, and monitoring of various Economic Development programs. This position will also identify opportunities for additional economic growth, develop programs, and actively implement Economic Development strategies; assist business owners, property owners, and developers regarding City permit processing and seek alternate methods of funding, such as grants, for additional community services and programs. A typical day as a Business Development Coordinator is fast-paced, collaborative, and rewarding. You might begin the morning meeting with a business owner to discuss a new commercial project, spend the afternoon connecting a small business owner with financing or workforce resources, and finish the day promoting Fontana at a networking event or industry meeting. Along the way, you'll coordinate with City departments, analyze market trends, support business attraction and revitalization efforts, develop innovative economic development programs, and help entrepreneurs navigate the development process. Requirements

  • Knowledge of business assistance, attraction, retention, and expansion programs.
  • Knowledge of basic principles and practices of promotion and advertising.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of planning, land use economics, zoning, small business operations, grant administration, and local government operations.
  • Knowledge of current trends in local economic development.
  • Knowledge of financing tools and packages to implement revitalization programs.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a high level of interdepartmental communications.
  • Knowledge of budgeting methodologies.
  • Knowledge of program planning and development procedures.
  • Familiarity with business development standards, practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with relevant tools, software, and/or technology used within the role.
  • Understanding of organizational policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of excellent customer service.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices, OSHA regulations, and workplace health and safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ability to develop revitalization programs for the City’s commercial and industrial areas and recommend implementation strategies.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret economic, demographic, and physical data to support the development and implementation of comprehensive city revitalization programs.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, and well-organized written reports and documentation.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to the public.
  • Ability to use a personal computer, telephone, and other electronic devices, to access information, complete documentation, and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions accurately.
  • Ability to identify issues, evaluate data, and implement effective solutions (problem solving).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform tasks accurately and thoroughly, with a focus on quality.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college of university with major coursework in Public or Business Administration, Urban Planning, Finance, Real Estate, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in activities related to one or more of the following: analyzing data, marketing, business development, grant administration, real estate development, fiscal analysis, contract administration, general business administration, or financial management.
  • Possession of, and continuously throughout employment, a valid California Class “C” Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the implementation of the City's Economic Development plans, programs, and marketing campaigns.
  • Assists with the development of programs for the revitalization of the City's commercial and industrial areas.
  • Implements and monitors various economic development programs according to program guidelines.
  • Performs analysis and interpretation of pertinent economic, demographic, and physical data as it relates to economic revitalization.
  • Coordinates efforts among City staff, property owners, developers, and business owners.
  • Communicates verbally and in writing with developers, property owners, City departments, business owners, civic groups, and other governmental agencies.
  • Make presentations before community organizations on the revitalization activities of the City.
  • Identifies grant opportunities, applies for grants as directed, and oversees the application process for various programs to provide services and funding for the community.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of audiences.
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
  • Sound judgement and attention to detail.
