The Community Outreach Specialist plays a key role in strengthening these connections and ensuring our services reach those who need them most. Position Summary: The Community Outreach Specialist is an essential member of the Business Development department. This role is responsible for building relationships in the community with organizations and the community it serves. This role is primary responsible for facilitating communication, understanding community needs and collaboration to provide the best care for the mental health population.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of key business development concepts and strategic planning.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of key internal/external health care facility environments.
  • Knowledge of computers and computer software programs.
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Skill in telephone etiquette and paging procedures.
  • Skills in presenting at workshops.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze market tendencies and project business developmental changing needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers.
  • Ability to work as a team player.
  • Ability to accept direction and adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of adapting to the various patient age groups (adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to work a minimum 40-hour work week.
  • Ability to sit for long periods, up to 8 hours.
  • Ability to use both hands in fine manipulation of small tools (copier, computer, telephone, calculator, facsimile machine).
  • Ability to push and pull up to 20 pounds (file drawers, computer paper boxes).
  • Ability to see well enough to read handwritten and typewritten materials.
  • Ability to hear and speak well enough to communicate over the telephone and in front of audiences.
  • Moving requires lifting, pulling, and stooping.
  • Ability to work inside and outside.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a behavioral health area, marketing, business or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience as an Outreach Specialist in a healthcare facility.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system preferred.
  • General knowledge and understanding of mental illness and chemical dependency treatment principles is preferred.
  • In addition, detailed knowledge of psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment principles preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain community outreach referrals and accounts, including the preparation of business development reports and materials.
  • Target and create new strategies for increasing business in a highly competitive market.
  • Maintain and develop key business development accounts and respond to all business development opportunities.
  • Host/Attend community workshops and seminars, held at the facility and in the community.
  • Coordination and maintenance of hospital website, social networking sites and media relations.
  • Creation of marketing collateral.
  • Participate in facility committees and project teams as assigned.
  • Accept responsibility for professional growth and development of self.
  • Adhere to facility, department, corporate, personnel and standard policies and procedures.
  • Attend all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled.
  • Adhere to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Support facility-wide quality/performance improvement goals and objectives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.
