About The Position

The Retail Business Banking Group Manager is accountable for the management of complex/critical/large professional disciplinary areas. This role leads and directs a team of professionals and requires a comprehensive understanding of multiple areas within a function and how they interact to achieve the objectives of the function. The position applies in-depth understanding of the business impact of technical contributions, and commercial awareness is a necessity. Generally accountable for the delivery of a full range of services to one or more businesses/geographic regions. Excellent communication skills are required for internal negotiations, often at a senior level, and some external communication may be necessary. This role is accountable for the end results of an area, exercises control over resources, policy formulation and planning, and primarily affects a sub-function. It involves short- to medium-term planning of actions and resources for the incumbent's area. Full management responsibility of a team or multiple teams is included, encompassing management of people, budget, and planning, including performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions, terminations, and budget approval.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business (preferred) or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years related business experience.
  • 5+ years of sales management experience.
  • 5+ years of business banking experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of Small Business Bankers (typically 4-20 direct reports) within assigned territories, including hiring and ongoing performance management.
  • Coaches, teaches, and serves as a role model for Area Directors, Branch Managers, and Personal Bankers on improving customer experience, sales, service, processes, and operations.
  • Implements strategies and develops sales action plans to deliver revenue, profit, and improve efficiencies for the division.
  • Executes a disciplined sales management process through inspection and coaching of Area Directors, Branch Managers, Business Bankers, and Personal Bankers.
  • Maintains consistent performance management routines to ensure Managers and Individual Performers are held accountable for both the "how" and the "what."
  • Leads a major market and is an expert on the opportunities and challenges of the Small Business customer and trade area base for that market.
  • Performs weekly visits to the field focused on driving small business efforts within the Division to inspect and improve customer advocacy and customer satisfaction.
  • Develops consistent management routines to drive results, share best practices, manage performance, set clear expectations, and keep the team focused on business goals.
  • Digests and assimilates vast communications across the Bank, delivering key messages and priorities with staff such as business strategy, customer offers, and marketing campaigns.
  • Establishes and maintains key relationships and business contacts within the community and targeted industry segments to create opportunities for growth.
  • Identifies and develops high potential employees to build Division bench strength or other opportunities within Citi.
  • Ensures operational integrity and compliance with bank policies and procedures.
  • Manages and controls risk, expenses, and activities for the Division.
  • Meets Division targets and identifies opportunities to improve.
  • Effectively communicates with all partners across, up, and down to optimize results.
  • Drives the credit process and reviews and assists Area Directors with approval for credit appeals and exception pricing decisions.
  • Ensures profitability targets are met.
  • Fulfills clients' necessities while providing an exceptional client experience.
  • Appropriately assesses risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervising the activity of others and creating accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
