About The Position

This position is responsible for providing end user and systems/solutions support for the City of Brooks. These products and services include PC and mobile devices, desktop application software, peripheral devices and others. The Business Applications Support Specialist provides first-level contact and problem resolution for all users with hardware, software and application problems. This position will constantly seek ways to improve their experience and keep us competitive, protected and connected.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a similar setting;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
  • Strong technical aptitude and troubleshooting skills in a Windows client/server environment;
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds;
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and manage workload including the ability to tolerate frequent interruptions and still meet deadlines;
  • Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy;
  • Demonstrated ability to show initiative;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding department and municipal matters;
  • Subject to a criminal record check.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably possesses or is working towards a Degree or Certificate in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline;

Responsibilities

  • Supports all desktop and laptop systems, accurately troubleshoots, diagnoses and corrects problems that occur; provides follow-up to clients until problem is resolved;
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application-related issues; escalate to vendors as required;
  • Support departmental workflows and reporting processes;
  • Maintains active directory users, email and computer accounts;
  • Provides technical support and training on computer and phone systems to new employees as a part of orientation;
  • Provides application support for Vadim, Laserfiche and Intelligenz;
  • Performs MySQL database administration duties, including backups and restores;
  • Maintains phones, computers, copiers, printers and IT equipment;
  • Supports mobile devices including smartphones and tablets;
  • Provides accurate and up to date inventory and documentation as directed by the IT Supervisor;
  • Provides “How To” instructions on common procedures such as desktop builds;
  • Assists with backups, restores and basic server maintenance;
  • Researches and provides input on hardware and software purchases;
  • Displays a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development through training, networking and participation at technical events;
  • Maintains strong technical skills with current Microsoft Windows & Office Systems;
  • Supports the IP telephone system including installation of new telephones and individual voicemail setup;
  • Maintains and updates City Intranet SharePoint site and the City’s public website;
  • Provides backup coverage as required for the IT Supervisor;
  • Assists Finance Clerks with data uploads such as, property tax assessments and vendor billing information;
  • Assists in maintaining the City’s records management system (Laserfiche) to ensure that electronic documents are adequately safeguarded;
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and privacy of information;
  • Provides coverage for Receptionist and Cashier functions as required, including front desk support and assisting the public
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Controller and IT Supervisor.
