About The Position

Gowan is a leading crop protection firm serving the agricultural and non-crop product markets mainly in North America (the U.S., Canada, and Mexico), Europe, and Latin America. Gowan products help growers produce safe and abundant food and fiber crops. Gowan seeks out and provides customers with innovative and effective solutions to their production challenges. Gowan USA is looking to add a Business and Strategic Markets Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years' business management experience in the crop protection or agriculture industry with strong analytical skills, and a Bachelor's degree in agriculture, agriscience, finance, or a related field. Previous experience working within an agriculture sales territory serving customers is a plus. The Business and Strategic Markets Analyst assists the Gowan USA Marketing Group in evaluating all business opportunities, acquisitions, licensing (in and out), partnerships, and all agreements that could have an impact on the Gowan Group of Companies. This position reports to the Director of Marketing for GUSA with strong cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders in Marketing, Sales, Business Development, and Finance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture, agriscience, accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of two years’ business management experience in the crop protection or agriculture industry
  • Strong business and market strategy knowledge (crop protection and biologicals) with a sound understanding of finance, valuation, P&L drivers, and value differentiation propositions for products and services
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, macros, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize based on deadlines, and work independently as well as within cross-functional and cross-cultural teams
  • Self-starter with the ability to analyze complex information and make sound, fact-based business and financial recommendations
  • Ability to think creatively and exercise good judgment to solve complex problems
  • Understanding of the interworkings of financial data in the agricultural chemical industry
  • Effective cross-functional relationship building and project management skills

Nice To Haves

  • Previous sales territory experience to understand retail/distribution channels

Responsibilities

  • Creating business case and valuation models of varying complexity for products, molecules, investments, acquisitions, and equity investments
  • Supporting the Marketing and Finance functions in conducting research and analysis of market data in support of valuation models
  • Collecting, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating significant amounts of information with attention to detail, accuracy, and clarity
  • Providing support for all phases of a robust acquisition process (valuation against comparable transactions, due diligence, preliminary integration planning, etc.)
  • Assisting in developing standard and consistent valuation methods across the Gowan Marketing Group, incorporating sensitivity analysis and advanced modeling tools on special projects
  • Partnering with Product Managers, the Marketing and Sales teams, and Finance to critically evaluate assumptions related to each model developed
  • Contributing to the development of the Gowan strategic business plan
