About The Position

This is a project position with a projected end date of June 30, 2026. The Workday Enterprise Solutions Team (WEST) is responsible for the administration and optimization of Workday and related systems (including, but not limited to, Adaptive Planning, Jaggaer / ShopUW+, Huron Research Suite) for Finance, Human Resources, and Research Administration across the Universities of Wisconsin System, while focusing on people, processes, and technology. This team concentrates on continuous improvement, system maintenance, projects, release enhancements, support, and strategic integration of the Workday ERP and related systems to achieve business objectives. The Business Analyst leads process improvement projects, supports business needs, and ensures alignment with WEST and unit priorities. In addition to these core responsibilities, this role has a strong focus on data, reporting, and analytics. The Business Analyst leads complex data analysis efforts, resolves reporting challenges, and provides strategic guidance on the selection and use of reporting tools such as Workday Reporting, Tableau dashboards, and other analytics solutions. This role requires experience working with ERP data, as well as the ability to translate data into actionable insights that drive decision-making. The Business Analyst collaborates across functions to design and implement sustainable solutions, while also providing support to other members of the team. The Business Analyst builds strong relationships, demonstrates an understanding of business and enterprise application operations, and delivers hands-on support for process improvements and problem-solving. Analysts collaborate within the team and across functions to ensure sustainable, cross-functional solutions. The ideal candidate has strong analytical, technical, and communication skills; advanced critical thinking and problem-solving abilities; and experience working independently and collaboratively. They bring expertise in data analysis, reporting strategy, and ERP systems, along with experience supporting organizational change or process improvement initiatives. The Business Analyst plays an important part in supporting the ongoing effectiveness of the WEST team and the assigned unit.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience analyzing complex business processes, requirements gathering, and developing business solutions
  • Ability to perform complex data analysis
  • Experience working with ERP data (e.g., Workday), including understanding data models, relationships, and table structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot reporting issues and ensure data accuracy and integrity across systems.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to synthesize data and information into presentations and materials
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Knowledge of methods to analyze business needs and recommend relevant solutions including policy, process, or system improvements.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years experience as a Business Analyst with progressively increasing responsibilities, or 3+ years experience supporting Workday as a Business Analyst
  • Proven experience leading process improvement projects or initiatives in higher education, government, or other complex organizations.
  • Experience developing or supporting data visualization and reporting solutions (e.g., Workday Reporting, Tableau, or similar tools).
  • Proven ability to recommend and implement reporting strategies or tools to support business decision-making
  • Advanced knowledge of business processes and enterprise system implementations (preferably Workday).
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a strategic liaison between technical and business teams, advocating for unit needs.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to guide initiatives from analysis through implementation.
  • Experience mentoring or coaching junior analysts or team members.
  • Ability to engage with senior stakeholders to influence decision-making and drive sustainable, cross-functional solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Build and sustain strong relationships with business leaders, process owners, and end users in a matrixed environment to ensure alignment between unit needs and system capabilities.
  • Develop a deep understanding of business processes, workflows, and challenges across assigned functional areas.
  • Perform complex data analysis to identify trends, issues, and opportunities, and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve reporting issues, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across systems and outputs.
  • Provide strategic guidance on reporting solutions, including selecting and designing tools such as Workday reports, Tableau dashboards, or other platforms to best meet business needs.
  • Translate complex business requirements into clear functional specifications for system configuration and development.
  • Partner with WEST teams and vendors to design, implement, test, and deploy enhancements.
  • Lead change management efforts, including impact assessment, communication strategies, and end-user training.
  • Facilitate workshops, requirement-gathering sessions, and user acceptance testing (UAT) to ensure solutions meet business expectations.
  • Monitor business process performance and adoption, proactively identifying and driving opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver sustainable, campus-wide solutions.
  • Perform complex data analyses and reporting
  • Designs, develops, and implements complex data reporting and business intelligence systems
  • Serves as a project lead for lower level IT staff providing guidance on specific project goals, outcomes, and technological components
  • Provides direction for the mapping of business processes using advanced process-mapping methodologies
  • Provides advanced procedural and technical guidance to unit staff regarding technology usage and management
  • Serves as a subject matter expert to institutional and unit leadership on critical technology issues
  • Makes recommendations in the selection of technology solutions to align with business strategies
  • Develops and assesses opportunities for new unit staff training opportunities
  • Provides guidance to lower level staff in the design, development, and implementation of data reporting and business intelligence systems
  • Performs testing, supports end users and follows WEST team standards.
