About The Position

The Business Analyst (BA) serves as a key liaison between academic and administrative stakeholders and the Office of Information Technology (OIT), ensuring that IT services and enterprise systems effectively support institutional goals. The BA plays a pivotal role in gathering and analyzing business requirements, improving IT processes, and facilitating the adoption of technology solutions that align with BYU–Hawaii's mission. In addition to IT service delivery, the BA integrates a student-centered capstone experience, providing mentorship, hands-on learning opportunities, and real-world IT project engagement for students. This initiative supports BYU– Hawaii’s mission to develop lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ and leaders in their families, communities, and chosen fields, particularly for students from Oceania and the Asian Rim.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree is required. Equivalent professional experience may be considered in place of formal education.
Minimum of 5 years in an IT environment.
Will consider certified (PMI-PBA) Professional in Business Analysis or the Certified Management Consultant (CMC).
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
The ability to identify problems, analyze their root causes, and develop effective solutions.
Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, both technical and non-technical, to gather requirements and present findings.
Strong understanding of project management principles and methodologies.

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary IT contact for Deans, Professors, Directors, and Managers, acting as a trusted advisor for IT services and digital transformation initiatives.
Gather and document business and technical requirements for IT projects to ensure alignment with BYU– Hawaii’s mission and institutional priorities.
Collaborate with Enterprise Information Services (EIS) Portfolio Managers to develop solutions that enhance academic and administrative functions.
Conduct business process reviews and recommend technology improvements that increase efficiency and enhance student experience.
Evaluate and analyze IT solutions to support university departments, ensuring that technology choices align with BYU–Hawaii’s commitment to faith-based education and leadership development.
Assist in the selection, configuration, and implementation of IT applications and enterprise systems that enhance university operations.
Partner with IT Infrastructure & Operations and IT Security teams to support system integrations, data security, and compliance.
Develop and oversee a structured capstone experience for students, integrating IT projects into BYU– Hawaii’s curriculum and leadership training.
Mentor and supervise student interns and project teams, ensuring they gain hands-on experience in business analysis, enterprise technology, and IT project management.
Provide students with opportunities to engage in real-world IT problem-solving, digital transformation initiatives, and service-oriented technology development.
Foster an inclusive, Christ-centered learning environment where students develop technical skills, leadership abilities, and ethical decision-making grounded in BYU–Hawaii’s mission.
Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to integrate IT-related capstone experiences into coursework.
Manage and Support current IT systems & Software
Analyze system performance and user feedback to recommend enhancements that improve student and faculty experiences with technology.
Develop training materials and lead workshops for faculty, staff, and students on enterprise systems and IT best practices.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that align technology with spiritual and academic development at BYU–Hawaii.
Ensure IT projects and enterprise applications adhere to policies and CES standards and guidelines.
Work with OIT leadership to implement security measures that protect sensitive university data.
Assist in compliance efforts related to data protection, accessibility, and ethical technology use.
Lead IT-related operational projects from planning to execution, ensuring they align with BYU–Hawaii’s strategic vision.
Develop and maintain project plans, documentation, and communication materials.
Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for IT initiatives, ensuring positive impacts on student learning and university operations.
Serve as the product owner for systems applications and within the assigned portfolio as needed.
Define, maintain, and communicate the product roadmap in partnership with portfolio managers, developers, and system stakeholders.
Conduct gap analysis on existing systems, services, and user needs to identify performance limitations, inefficiencies, or unmet business goals.
Facilitate cross-functional reviews to evaluate proposed enhancements or new tool adoption.
Prioritize platform improvements that enhance usability, compliance, efficiency, and long-term viability.
