About The Position

The NYC DOT Transportation Planning and Management Division (TPM), Office of Livable Streets (OLS), is seeking a Bus Seating Planner within Furniture and Operations. The Furniture and Operations Unit manages contract management, design, planning, installation, and maintenance of bike parking, benches, leaning bars, wayfinding signage, curb extensions, and safety devices for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders throughout New York City. The goal of these programs is to make the city more vibrant, walkable, bikeable, and mass transit accessible, particularly for people who live and work outside. Reporting to the Deputy Director of the Planning team, the Bus Seating Planner, with latitude for independent judgment and initiative, is responsible for planning locations for benches and leaning bars for NYC DOT’s Universal Bus Stop Seating Initiative. The Bus Seating Planner will act directly as the long-term manager of the Initiative and play a critical role in DOT’s goal to install a bench or leaning bar at every eligible bus stop in New York City in ten years. This will require urban design work of moderate difficulty and responsibility to complete an important community service.
