About The Position

The Bus Operator provides safe, efficient, and on-time passenger transportation using public transportation vehicles. The operator drives coaches or vans along designated routes and schedules, assists passengers, communicates with central dispatch, and completes required reports and data collection. The role also includes attending required training and meetings and assuming additional responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B or higher, with passenger endorsement.
• Clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Drive coaches or vans safely, courteously, and reliably along designated routes and within defined schedules.
• Notify central dispatch about route deviations, overloads, accidents, passenger incidents, passenger medical or behavioral problems, and vehicle mechanical or electrical trouble.
• Stop at designated points to load and unload passengers.
• Ensure fares are deposited in the fare box; distribute transfers and provide information.
• Advise passengers of rules and regulations when necessary.
• Complete and submit written reports concerning passenger incidents and preventable and non-preventable accidents.
• Operate fare boxes and destination signs.
• Record passenger counts.
• Assist dispatchers and staff in collecting national transit database data via the radio system.
• Announce stops to the public.
• Attend required training and meetings.
• Assume additional responsibilities as required.
