About The Position

Provides support to bus drivers by ensuring the safe and orderly transportation of students with disabilities on special education buses for Irving Independent School District. This role involves assisting students, maintaining order and cleanliness on the bus, and adhering to emergency procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
• Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions
• Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment
• Ability to work well with students with special needs
• Ability to carry heavy loads quickly and safely
• Be able to communicate in English on the radio and in person.

Nice To Haves

• 21 years of age (preferred)
• One [1] year of experience in a related field preferred

Responsibilities

• Ensure each student gets off the bus at their assigned school.
• Assist students with personal items from home to school and back.
• Keep all students seated in their assigned seats.
• Keep the inside of the bus swept and clean after each run.
• Treat substitute buses as regular bus assignments.
• Assist daycare students to and from the front door when dropping off and picking up.
• Ensure students use seat belts or harnesses for safety.
• Follow proper emergency procedures for passenger safety and care.
• Use proper forms for student behavior problems.
• Be responsible for student discipline and control when on a regular education bus.
• Communicate in English on the radio and in person.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the director or designee.
