About The Position

The Bus Driver is responsible for operating a school bus over designated routes to provide safe and efficient transportation for District students to and from school, special events, and field trips. This role involves performing daily inspections and maintenance of the vehicle, assisting in the loading and unloading of students, and maintaining order and discipline on the bus. The position requires adherence to all applicable local, State, and Federal policies and procedures, as well as maintaining a positive image of the school district.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Hold a valid Class “B” Commercial driver’s license, including passenger endorsement and school bus endorsement.
Pass driving record check, Ky. DOT physical, and criminal record check.
Demonstrated people skills to indicate the ability to function in a team-oriented environment.
Working knowledge of computers.

Responsibilities

Drive a school bus over designated routes in accordance with specified time schedules and regulations.
Transport students to and from school, special events, and field trips.
Pick up and discharge students at established bus stops.
Report incidents affecting student safety.
Maintain the bus in safe operating condition through daily inspections and driver maintenance.
Check and maintain fuel, oil, and water levels, as well as brakes, brake lights, and doors.
Report mechanical defects and malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
Maintain order and discipline among students on the bus.
Interact with parents regarding questions, concerns, and disputes.
Perform emergency bus evacuation drills.
Transport physically and mentally disabled students.
Lift and secure wheelchairs.
Assist in the loading and unloading of disabled students.
Observe applicable local, State, and Federal policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Fuel and clean the exterior and interior of buses.
Maintain records concerning vehicle maintenance, miles driven, and number of students transported.
Prepare student conduct, incident, and accident reports.
Attend safety and preventive emergency meetings when required.
Utilize two-way radio for bus-to-bus and bus-to-base communication.
Perform first aid according to established guidelines and procedures.
Complete training for specific issues involving students being transported.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
Present a positive image of the school to parents.
Seek to establish friendly and cooperative partnerships between home and school.
Work to develop a positive public relationship between the school district and community.
Carry out assignments in a timely manner.
React positively to directives from supervisors.
Demonstrate a willingness to cooperate with district administrators, principals, and staff.
Maintain the confidentiality of student educational records.
Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Adhere to School Board of Education Policies and Procedures.
