About The Position

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) offers a one-year, dedicated fellowship in Burn and Acute Care Surgery. Based at the South Carolina Burn Center - one of the largest and most comprehensive burn centers in the Southeast - this position provides extensive clinical and research experience in the management of burn injuries, acute surgical critical care, and complex wound care. Fellows will develop advanced competency in all aspects of burn surgery, including acute resuscitation, operative burn care, reconstructive procedures, and the multidisciplinary management of critically ill surgical patients.

Requirements

  • Successfully completed an ACGME-accredited residency in General Surgery.
  • Board eligible or board certified in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at the time of application.

  • Prior burn surgery exposure or critical care training are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in direct patient care, including daily rounds in the burn intensive care unit and burn ward, operative procedures, consultations, and outpatient follow-up.
  • Manage acute burn resuscitation, operative debridement, autografting, wound coverage, and post-operative care under the supervision of fellowship faculty.
  • Participate in the burn call schedule rotation with faculty supervision.
  • Participate in MUSC's Surgery Grand Rounds and burn-specific educational conferences.
  • Collaborate on research projects with the guidance of MUSC faculty, resulting in publishable contributions to the field of burn surgery or acute care surgery.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary team meetings involving nursing, physical and occupational therapy, nutrition, social work, and rehabilitation services integral to burn patient care.
