This role is for a Registered Nurse on the UW Health RN Inpatient Acute Care General Surgery unit, a 28-bed unit located at University Hospital in Madison, WI. UW Health is recognized as a Magnet-designated organization for its nursing excellence and quality patient care. The unit focuses on providing compassionate care to high acuity general care level patients, specifically offering post-operative care for individuals undergoing complex abdominal surgeries involving organs such as the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas (including Whipple procedures), gallbladder, and bile ducts. Nurses on this team are expected to be skilled in various post-operative surgical care techniques for acutely ill patients, including the management of surgical drains, nasogastric tube placement, administration of enteral nutrition, complex wound care utilizing wound vacs, epidural and PCA pain pump management, and stoma care. The position involves close collaboration with multiple surgical services, including general surgery, minimally invasive surgery, emergency surgery, and surgical oncology, as well as with specialty-certified Wound and Ostomy RNs.
