About The Position

Arcadis is seeking dedicated, creative, and energetic candidates for a Buried Infrastructure Specialist role to support their Pennsylvania team. The position focuses on sanitary/environmental engineering, particularly in buried infrastructure and conveyance disciplines such as water distribution, sewer collection, pumping, storage, and treatment systems. A preference is given to candidates located in or near Allentown, PA. The role involves tackling challenges and developing sustainable solutions, with desirable experience in condition assessment, construction management, renewal/rehabilitation design (especially trenchless methods), and hydraulic modeling. Experience in municipal or industrial systems is also a plus. The role requires a significant amount of fieldwork (approximately 75%) and travel, including short-term out-of-area project site visits and potential work at client sites across the US and internationally. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, works well independently and in a team, is flexible, and possesses strong communication and leadership skills due to frequent client and contractor interaction.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree, ideally in a relevant engineering discipline or in construction management.
Technical skills including Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and GIS.
Physical ability to lift/carry heavy equipment and perform rigorous field investigations.
Willingness to work in an office and field environment with an emphasis on fieldwork.
Willingness to travel locally and regionally.
Willingness to travel nationally for short- and medium-term assignments.
Willingness to travel for field or project assignments.
Valid US driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to responsibly manage multiple unique assignments with varying deadlines and stakeholders.
Must be open to travel and fieldwork, as this role requires frequent travel for field assignments.
Must be willing to work in an office and field environment with an emphasis on fieldwork.
Possess technical skills including Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and GIS.
Have the physical ability to lift/carry heavy equipment and perform rigorous field investigations such as inspections, condition assessments, flow monitoring, and construction engineering.
After receiving training, you will be expected to be comfortable with entering confined spaces (i.e., manholes) to perform field activities and inspections and work with field contractors to oversee the construction of designed works.
This role requires regular communication, both verbal and written, with staff across Arcadis, clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders, as well as preparing progress reports and participating in client meetings.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience with condition assessment, construction management, renewal and/or rehabilitation design, especially trenchless construction methods, and hydraulic modeling.
Experience in municipal and industrial systems.
Experience/training with AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS.
H&S Training including HAZWOPER Certification, Confined Space Entry, and/or OSHA 30-hr Construction Site Safety.
EIT, with a desire to obtain PE.

Responsibilities

Supporting the Pennsylvania team with a focus on sanitary/environmental engineering, particularly in buried infrastructure and conveyance disciplines.
Tackling challenges and developing sustainable solutions for water distribution, sewer collection, pumping, storage, and treatment systems.
Conducting fieldwork, including construction engineering and infrastructure condition assessment techniques (approximately 75% of responsibilities).
Performing field investigations such as inspections, condition assessments, flow monitoring, and construction engineering.
Entering confined spaces (e.g., manholes) for field activities and inspections after training.
Working with field contractors to oversee the construction of designed works.
Communicating regularly, verbally and in writing, with Arcadis staff, clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
Preparing progress reports and participating in client meetings.
Handling conceptual to detailed design and preparation of contract documents for municipal, industrial, and remedial water/wastewater treatment units, water/sewer force mains, sewer gravity mains, and pump stations.
Interpreting flow monitoring data and conducting data management activities.
Integrating GIS for modeling.
Analyzing data and developing recommendations for infrastructure renewal.
Planning and implementing renewal projects.
Engaging in field activities such as construction inspection, inflow and infiltration studies, sampling, asset inventory, and condition assessment.
Performing confined space entry, subcontractor oversight, and flow monitoring setup.
Traveling locally and regionally for field or project assignments.
Learning and performing a wide variety of engineering and construction skills.
