About The Position

Kinetic, a business unit of Uniti, provides fiber internet, whole-home Wi-Fi, internet security, and voice services. As a Buried Drop Technician, you will install buried copper, fiber, and coaxial cable from the network hub to customers’ homes. This hands-on field role connects customers to internet, voice, and entertainment services through quality cable installation, safety, and customer service. The role involves outdoor field work and is described as a safety-sensitive, entry-level, full-time position. It offers hands-on experience that may provide opportunities for advancement in fiber optic and telecommunications careers.

Requirements

Ability to walk at least one-half mile while operating a drop plow that places service cable.
Ability to work the schedule, including overtime, callouts, and standby as needed.
Basic technology and math skills.
Ability to distinguish colors in color-coded cable.
Ability to lift and carry up to 70 pounds.
Ability to successfully complete required training, including overnight out-of-state travel.
Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT physical.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience with buried cable, fiber optic installation, utility construction, drop plow operation, trenching, boring, or telecommunications field work; helpful but not required unless specified by the posting location.
Strong safety mindset, mechanical aptitude, and pride in completing quality outdoor field work.
Customer service experience and ability to communicate clearly with customers while representing Kinetic professionally.

Responsibilities

Install buried copper, fiber, and coaxial drop cable to connect Kinetic’s network to customers’ residences.
Create meaningful connections with customers through technical expertise and customer focus.
Interpret work drawings and instructions and complete necessary paperwork.
Sell and promote Kinetic products and services.
Train new employees in daily job functions.
Use a handheld computer to retrieve and clear job tasks.
Perform locates on underground facilities, as applicable, including gas, power, and communication lines.
Operate trenching and boring machinery to bury cables.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
