About The Position

Kinetic, a business unit of Uniti, provides fiber internet, Wi-Fi, internet security, and voice services. The Buried Drop Technician installs buried copper, fiber, and coaxial cable between the network hub and customers’ homes, helping connect customers to internet, voice, and entertainment services. This hands-on field role emphasizes safe, quality installation and customer service. It is an entry-level position that provides field experience and may offer a path to advancement in fiber optic and telecommunications careers. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Requirements

Ability to walk at least one-half mile while operating a drop plow that places service cable.
Ability to work the schedule, including overtime, callouts, and standby as needed.
Basic technology and math skills.
Ability to distinguish colors in color-coded cable.
Ability to lift and carry up to 70 pounds.
Ability to successfully complete required training, including overnight out-of-state travel.
Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT physical.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience with buried cable, fiber optic installation, utility construction, drop plow operation, trenching, boring, or telecommunications field work; helpful but not required unless specified by the posting location.
Strong safety mindset, mechanical aptitude, and pride in completing quality work outdoors and in the field.
Customer service experience and ability to communicate clearly with customers while representing Kinetic professionally.

Responsibilities

Physically install buried copper, fiber, and coaxial drop cable to connect Kinetic’s network to customers’ residences.
Create positive customer connections through technical expertise and customer focus.
Interpret work drawings and instructions and complete necessary paperwork.
Sell and promote Kinetic products and services.
Train new employees in daily job functions.
Use a handheld computer to retrieve and clear job tasks.
Perform locates on underground facilities, such as gas, power, and communication lines, when applicable.
Operate machinery, including trenching and boring equipment, to bury cables.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
