About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is recruiting for two part-time Buildings and Grounds Patrol Officer positions at EC Goodwin Technical High School in New Britain, CT. These are 10-month positions, meaning employees return to work after a summer break. Permanent, part-time employees are eligible for benefits and accrue paid time off based on hours worked. CTECS has over 100 years of experience in Career Technical Education, operating 17 diploma-granting technical high schools and other specialized programs, serving as a direct employment pipeline for students and adult learners. Requirements

  • Any experience or training which would provide the skills and abilities indicated above.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to obtain and maintain a Standard First Aid Certificate and/or CPR certification.
  • Incumbents in this class must have general good health, be free from any disease or injury which would impair health or usefulness and possess and retain sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility, endurance and visual and auditory acuity required to perform all the duties of the class.
  • Applicants may be required to pass a physical examination.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces regulations relating to parking and traffic control as established by assigned agency.
  • Directs traffic on state property.
  • Issues tickets for violations.
  • Gives information and assistance to visitors.
  • Guards entrances and exits to prevent trespass, vandalism, theft and other violations.
  • Performs routine vehicle and foot patrol duty and monitors security and alarm systems to detect theft and other criminal acts.
  • Provides security escorts.
  • Provides first aid when necessary.
  • Performs dispatching and record keeping functions at a desk post.
  • At a state hospital, assists in maintaining order among patients.
  • Assists in searching for missing patients.
  • At an agency or institution, may oversee the activities of fellow officers as designated.
  • May assist in fire prevention and fire fighting activities.
  • Performs related duties as required.
