About The Position

Join the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) as a Buildings and Grounds Patrol Officer at Norwich Technical High School in Norwich, CT. This part-time, 10-month position involves maintaining a safe and secure campus environment for students, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities include monitoring buildings and grounds, enforcing parking and traffic regulations, conducting patrols, responding to security concerns, assisting visitors, providing security escorts, administering first aid, and supporting daily operations through dispatching and recordkeeping. Requirements

  • Any experience or training which would provide the skills and abilities indicated above.
  • Skills interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to think and act quickly in an emergency with judgment and discretion.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to obtain and maintain a Standard First Aid Certificate and/or CPR certification.
  • General good health, be free from any disease or injury which would impair health or usefulness and possess and retain sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility, endurance and visual and auditory acuity required to perform all the duties of the class.
  • Applicants may be required to pass a physical examination.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor buildings and grounds to protect school property.
  • Enforce parking and traffic regulations.
  • Conduct vehicle and foot patrols.
  • Respond to security concerns.
  • Assist visitors.
  • Provide security escorts.
  • Administer first aid when needed.
  • Support daily operations through dispatching and recordkeeping.
  • Direct traffic on state property.
  • Issue tickets for violations.
  • Guard entrances and exits to prevent trespass, vandalism, theft and other violations.
  • Monitor security and alarm systems to detect theft and other criminal acts.
  • At a state hospital, assist in maintaining order among patients.
  • Assist in searching for missing patients.
  • May oversee the activities of fellow officers as designated.
  • May assist in fire prevention and fire fighting activities.
