Building Utilities Mechanics Faculty
About The Position
The Building Utilities Mechanic (BUM) Faculty Instructor provides high-quality classroom and hands-on laboratory instruction within the Facilities and Services Technology program. Instruction may include HVAC systems, HVAC controls, electrical theory, electrical laboratory, building systems, maintenance practices, troubleshooting, and other related technical coursework. Faculty responsibilities include developing and delivering course content; preparing instructional materials and laboratory activities; assessing and evaluating student learning and performance; maintaining appropriate course records; and continually evaluating courses to support student learning and program outcomes. The instructor will provide guidance and support to students both inside and outside the classroom to promote academic progress, skill development, retention, and successful completion of the program. Consistent with the MSCF collective bargaining agreement, faculty work also includes professional responsibilities beyond classroom instruction, including student advising, course preparation and evaluation, professional development, committee participation, classroom research, community service, and service to the college. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty, staff, administration, and industry partners; remain current with evolving building systems, technologies, codes, and industry practices; maintain a safe and effective learning environment; and contribute to the continued development and success of the Facilities and Services Technology program.
Requirements
- Two-year diploma in an electrician program or completion of a registered electrician apprenticeship program OR Associate degree in a building utilities mechanic program or a building facilities technology program OR Associate degree in an HVAC or related program
- Four full-time (or equivalent) years of verified related paid work experience as a licensed electrician in residential and commercial OR Four full-time (or equivalent) years of verified related paid work experience as a building utilities mechanic or HVAC
- One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field.
- The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.
