Building Technician

MesodyneSomerville, MA
Onsite

About The Position

Mesodyne builds compact, silent thermophotovoltaic generators — MIT-born LightCell tech that runs on any fuel and lasts 10x longer than batteries or engines. We serve industrial and defense customers with active contracts and a growing pipeline. The Role Own our Somerville HQ. You keep the physical space secure, functional, and running smoothly — from the front door to the loading dock — so our engineering and business teams never have to think twice about it.

Requirements

  • 2-4+ years in facilities management, building operations, or a similar hands-on role — startup or fast-paced environment a big plus.
  • You juggle competing priorities and vendors without dropping details.
  • Professional, warm, and clear both written and verbal communication with investors, vendors, and the team alike.
  • Comfortable troubleshooting building issues and coordinating with contractors and service providers.
  • You spot what's needed before anyone asks.
  • No two days look the same, and you're fine with that.
  • Able to lift and move standard office packages and deliveries safely.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for the facility. Greet, sign in, and escort all guests, investors, and candidates, maintaining physical security protocols at all times.
  • Own daily inbound and outbound logistics. Promptly log and route packages and mail so critical engineering components and sensitive materials never sit outside, get lost, or get damaged.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with building management and external service vendors — cleaning, internet, maintenance, security — negotiating contracts and resolving issues quickly.
  • Track the condition of the facility, schedule and oversee repairs, and coordinate preventive maintenance for HVAC, electrical, and other building systems.
  • Plan and manage office layout, desk assignments, and workspace setup as the team grows, including furniture and equipment moves.
  • Maintain compliance with fire, safety, and building codes; run emergency preparedness planning and coordinate any required drills or inspections.
  • Purchase and track facility supplies and services; collect receipts, reconcile corporate card expenses, and support basic accounts payable workflows.
  • Manage badge access, security cameras, and visitor logs, and keep protocols up to date as the facility evolves.
