About The Position

BPA is an engineering firm focused on shaping buildings and infrastructure through sustainable design and technical innovation across Canada. The Building Structure Director is responsible for planning, supervising, and developing structural engineering activities within the firm. This role ensures the technical quality of projects, compliance with budgets and schedules, and contributes to the growth of the team and business portfolio in the Gatineau and Outaouais region. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Building Engineering, structural option.
  • Active member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • Minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in structural engineering, including at least 5 years as a manager or technical director.
  • Proficiency in design software (ETABS, SAP2000, ADA, SAFI).
  • Strong knowledge of materials (steel, concrete, wood, masonry).
  • Excellent understanding of the Québec Building Code and relevant CSA standards.
  • Inspiring leadership.
  • Excellent communication and team management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong customer service and quality orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the structural engineering team (engineers and technicians).
  • Ensure the design, verification, and validation of structural calculations and drawings (steel, concrete, wood, mixed structures).
  • Actively participate in the department’s strategic planning and business development.
  • Manage interdisciplinary coordination with architecture, mechanical, electrical, and civil departments.
  • Ensure project compliance with the Québec Building Code (QBC), CSA standards, and municipal requirements.
  • Supervise the preparation of technical specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients, partners, and subcontractors.
  • Participate in recruiting, training, and evaluating structural department staff.
  • Stay up to date with technical and regulatory developments to integrate best practices and innovations.
